Advocacy
Consorta strongly advocates on behalf of its members and the
industry. Working with McDermott, Will & Emery, a legislative law
firm in Washington, D.C., Consorta has been instrumental in ensuring
that the group purchasing Industry addresses concerns through
voluntary actions by GPOs rather than legislative or regulatory
intervention.
To accomplish this goal, Consorta’s executive management have
take a leadership role and are actively involved in developing
strategies and key messages for legislators on both of national and
local level.
Consorta’s president John W. Strong has testified before
Congress, and has served as Chairman of the Healthcare Purchasing
Group Industry Initiatives (HGPII), which promotes and monitors best
ethical and business practices in purchasing for hospitals and other
healthcare providers.
Darrel Weatherford, Consorta’s Chief Operating Officer and
Compliance Officer, is the current Chair of the Health Industry
Group Purchasing Association (HIGPA), which works collaboratively
with all legislative and regulatory authorities to insure fair and
efficient procurement practices in an open and competitive market
within the health industry.
